Caption: The short-lived Windsor and Hantsport Railway operated on some former Dominion Atlantic track for the most part; servicing two Gypsum quarries in the area. The line once ran as far west as New Minas, but economic downturn resulted in that part of the line from Windsor westbound to be embargoed.
The closing of the two gypsum quarries in 2011 spelt the end for the WHRC.
The old Hantsport station was in the news a couple of years ago, as the town wanted to save the structure, but it seemed no one had the cash to have it shored up against the vandals. So there it sits.
In the background to the right in this photo one can see there are a considerable number of old hoppers still on the property. The line is severed toward Halifax for a short stretch and so the cars remain to rust.
Owner of the line, An American, still thinks he can get this road up and running again, for whatever reason, as the track is intact all but for a short washout. Rehabilitating this line seems like a supreme waste of money. In the meantime, Mother Nature moves in.

I was luck enough to shoot them back in 2001. I only got one of their short lived tourist trains but was neat catching them passing the station here. I believe 2 Dash-7′s remain in the engine house today.
My wife & I were on a holiday in NS in 2015 & I went to look at this station when we were in the area. I looked in the windows and I swear, it was as if the crews went home one night & just never came back. There were raincoats draped over chair & switch lanterns on the table. It was a rather eerie sight. I find scenes like this a bit sad.
