The old Perth CPR station has already been decommissioned by the look of it. CP 5738, 4507 and 47xx west roar by what I considered an unusual designed station (read: ugly) of which there were probably more of it's type but offhand I cannot think of one. Unfortunately this image is shot on substandard print film I used 'back in the day' and this is about as good as it gets. Now, not only is the station long gone, Perth, being within 11 miles of Smiths Falls, doesn't even get a timetable mention.

  1. Great shot.
You did a lot of exploring 40 years ago. This is another excellent find.

  2. Thanks. I often wondered how many miles I put on the car in 1977. A lot.

  3. Awesome shot Arnold. I would agree…this is not one of the ‘more photogenic’ of stations. But unique;y designed by the CPR nonetheless. Another station buddy of mine had told me that inside the station you had to go up a small flight of steps to the platform, probably why it looks so ‘odd’ track side. Keep in mind…this station was captured near the end of it’s life. And, at that time too the railways started to eliminate the architectural features all in the name of saving money towards building maintenance.
