Caption: The old Hamilton & North Western Railway line through Vine, Ontario still sees a train pass by twice per week as the Barrie Collingwood Railway’s GP9 1001 works down the Beeton Sub to industries at Innisfil and back through Barrie to Utopia. The circa 1918 Grand Trunk Railway station at Vine still remains just a few hundred feet down the road from the line it once served. After the last passenger train in 1960, it was relocated in 1962, and once again wears GTR grey and green in its new role as a residence.
CCGX 1001 is returning north from Innisfil with two cars from Comet Chemical, one from Tarpin Lumber, and a fourth car for TAG Environmental at Barrie.

The Hamilton and Northwestern Railway? That’a a new one for me as well. Is there a map? What towns did it service?
H&NW (later Northern & North Western, Grand Trunk, CN) ran from Hamilton to Port Dover (CN Hagersville Sub, minus Jarvis – Port Dover), and from Hamilton – Allandale. The line to Allandale included what would become CN’s N&NW spur (Hamilton industrial), the Beach Sub, the Milton Sub (Burlington – Allandale via Beeton, later becoming the Halton Sub from Burlington – Georgetown and the Beeton Sub Georgetown – Allandale). The line also included a branch from just north of Beeton (Allimil) to Collingwood.

What a wonderful rural railway scene, a GP9 with a 1918 GTR passenger station – can’t get much better than that ! Am always learning something new, Vine is an example, nestled on the south edge of the City of Barrie – who would have guessed. Thank you Jacob, John
Seems few knew of this station. I hadn’t planned to shoot here as the crossing is surrounded by chain link fencing. Drove by while killing time… and here we are.
