Caption: The old CN Jarvis station has been in the news as of late. It was purchased and moved across Hwy 3 on October 18, 2016 to a new location at Walpole Antique Farm Machinery site at 3018 Hwy 6, Jarvis, just south of the Intersection of Hwys 3 & 6 in town. This building sat empty for a few years after failed efforts to use it for commercial purposes. Now, with the station out of the way, the land is going to be the home of....what else? Another Tim Hortons!!
This view taken in better days shows the scene looking east. CN 4509 and van 79683 awaits new business over by the long demolished Jarvis Freight Shed. Thats the "sidekick" wandering along the backtrack.(She shows up everywhere...checking to see if I was pursuing steel wheeled beauties rather than the two legged ones, I guess). That is the old CN Hagersville line in the background, now leased to SOR (RLHH). Otherwise most everything in this 37 year old view is gone today. A "Time Machine" shot would feature a closeup of a Timmys. Good Grief !!

Amazing what was once there, now all there will be is a Tim Hortons:(
Thanks for posting.
Thank god for a Tim Hortons there..the one in Dover is soooo slow !
Boy, you’re not joking! Turning on the satellite image and zooming in, only scars on the ground where the tracks used to be. Interesting that they have not reclaimed the right of way or turned it into paved or pea gravel paths. Another dandy station photo.
Wow I never realized the Hagersville Sub was that close to Jarvis! Did CN outpost a yard job in Jarvis back then?
Great shot, awesome….a present day comparison time machine pic would be neat!
“Old Hagersville Sub” the track doesn’t get that close to Jarvis anymore.
I drove by here last night Arnold, the new Horton Donuts is almost ready to open. The train station looks right at home at the historical society location too!
Man, I am kicking myself a bit – as I have passed Jarvis 10-20 times in the last 8 years and I didn’t get a single good shot of it. It’s moved now… so it’s just an empty field.
RLK2211 – after the Nanticoke line was built from the current location I believe the ‘old’ Hagersville sub was deemed the “Jarvis Spur” – per the 1975 timetable “General Footnotes”
“Jarvis: Trains operating to Hagersville will operate via Jarvis spur. Trains operating to Nanticoke will use the connecting track at mile 61.4″
Speeds: 40 MPH
I imagine it was ripped out not long after Arnolds photo – probably not in use by then except for storage? My guess..
Ah ok guys I see now, just looked at a satellite image and can clearly make out the original alignments
This is a most interesting and timely capture … Jarvis Spur, Station, trackage on both sides and even rail cars! The station maintenance crew at WAFMA will undoubtedly be hot to get their hands on a copy of this gem for historical purposes … along with other related postings. Arnold, by chance, do you have any photos of the Jarvis Spur north to the hamlet of Garnet(and/or before being rerouted to Nanticoke, etc.)and, in particular, involving the bridge crossing the Sandusk Creek (just south of the Garnet Church)?
No, Glenn. Not that I recall. But then, I had not recalled this image; just happened to find it in the station ‘pile’. Thanks for your appreciation.
A sentimental favourite….nice era This is how, as a little boy….I remember the railways.
Hi Glenn, I have a couple of photos showing the other leg of the Wye at Jarvis if you are interested in seeing them. They would be far from acceptable to post on RP but I would be glad to send you copies for your personal viewing. The moderators have my permission to provide you with my personal email address.
My Dad was the CN Roadmaster in Jarvis from 1969 to 1985. His office was in the former waiting room area of the station (behind the windows under the CN Jarvis sign). When we moved to Jarvis in 1969 there was an Operator position at the Jarvis station. When the Hagersville Sub. was rerouted to cross highway 6 north of the hamlet of Garnet and connect with the Nanticoke Spur via a new railway crossing at grade with the Cayuga Sub. at CN Garnet, the operator was relocated there. At that same time the section foreman and his crew moved into the operators area and used it as an office and lunch room until their positions were abolished and the Cayuga Sub. was abandoned, The signal maintainer worked out of the shanty immediately east of the station. I started my CN career as a section man at Jarvis in October of 1971 before transferring to the Work Equipment department at Danforth Shops in Scarborough, ON in the spring of 1972. My Mom had a weekly contract with CN to clean the lunchroom and offices until 1985. Lots of work and personal memories in this shot.
Hi Paul, without question I would appreciate the opportunity to view images pertaining to the wye at Jarvis and perhaps dialogue directly with you regarding this locale. Another point of interest being the over and under as details and potential pictures, etc. Thanks so much for reaching out, etc. The moderators have my permission to share my personal email address with you as well.
