The late morning hours can sometime be busy in guelph yard, as seen here with GEXR locals 580 & 582 switching cars. When the two trains are finished 582 with head up to the Guelph North spurs to work customers and the OSR interchange, while 580 will head back to Kitchener. Local 580 used to do all of the switching in Guelph, but now with 582 assigned to Preston it now often handles these chores.

  1. Nice catch. 580 has turned into a road switcher with bridge traffic – 582 depends on 580 to deliver cars, hence the daily dance at Guelph often ending in an exchange of cars.

  2. Great shot!

Actually generally speaking 580 still does the work the north spur in Guelph, which was the case on this day. 582 usually doesn’t work the Guelph North unless 580 is behind or other unforeseen issues occur.

Perhaps the fact that 580 and 582 swapped power this day lead you to believe this ?

  3. Interesting to see power of two G&W railways that operate partly or entirely in Quebec together in Ontario.
