Caption: The last of the four ex-VIA/exx-CN passenger cars I photographed while in The Pas, MB this past March, and now lettered for Keewatin Railway Company is KRC 9631.
KRC 9631 is (ex-VIA 9631, exx-CN 9631, nee-CN 9250), a Class BE-73-H, 73 foot 6 inch baggage car. It was built by NSC in 1955.
This car houses two diesel driven generators (one running, one backup), a large furnace for keeping the baggage compartment warm during the brutally cold winter months, and a large open area for carrying baggage, supplies, and other items for the long journey of the Pukatawagan Mixed.
Having access all around the exterior of the cars where they were stored, and then a full tour on board once the 'Mixed' was made up was an experience I will long remember. The KRC train crew and local supervisor where a great bunch of guys and welcomed all my requests for information and photo opportunities. :-)
