The J rolls eastward through the Mount Pleasant GO station, with a nice clock tower and almost classic architecture you'd think it's been there a while, but the station has only been there about 15 years. This was a rather nice breakfast... :)

  1. Great work

  2. Lucky!

  3. Whoa breakfast of champions. Nice!

  4. I made the mistake of going to Weston Road in an attempt to catch it and ended up getting screwed by an intermodal which stopped right in front of us and took away the light. This was the exact shot I originally wanted to set out for but was afraid it would take me too long to get there from the east end of Toronto. Good stuff :)

  5. I’ve only shot here three times, once 15 years ago with a GEXR Westbound, once two years ago with the GMTX on delivery (from the overpass) and this is my first eastbound shot. I saw the GO track and the distance from the fenceline and figured this is as good as it’s going to get.

I’d much prefer to shoot in the country though…

  6. “The J” hahah, I like that. Far prefer “Orange Devil” though….. ;) Nice grab Steve.

  7. Orange Devil has been trending all morning, this is probably why.

  8. Damn kids… I’d have called it an Orange Vampire.. so logical right? Right. :)

“The J” is what it says on the side of the unit, as does the other EJ&E painted units as that is the nickname of the railroad.

Whatever kid used the term “Devil” to give a nickname to a locomotive was smoking some really wacky tobacky.

  9. Sounds like I knew him, then.

  10. We called the LMS units… “LMS” or “ex LMS” and sometime around 2010 or 2011 some kid gave them the logical name “blue devil” and since the Internet age took off, so did the name… but those of us over 40 just shake our head. :)

Locomotive Management Services (LMS) was a joint Conrail/CN lease of a group of Dash 8′s, painted in Conrail blue with LMS on the side, LMS formed to manage the lease jointly. In the early 2000′s they were very common in pairs on many trains around here, the worst, when they would lead NS 327/8…. in retrospect because CR blue was eliminated so quickly by NS/CSX they are a blast from the past in ways. Alas they are still here and loved by the under 40 crowd :)

  11. I always assumed blue devils came from the 60′s song “Devil with the blue dress.”

Nice shot Steve-o (and Kevin). I should have gotten my ass in gear and gone after it too.

  12. I prefer the nickname “orange punch” for this guy lol. Cool shot!

  13. All this attention on the EJE leader, what about the Rock hopper a couple cars back? :) Nice work Steve.

  14. Not gonna lie Kevin, I’ve been eyeing that hopper in everyone’s shots I see haha. Makes me wonder if I should actually visit the main once in a while for some obscure hoppers.

  15. Nice. Well done, Stephen.

  16. I prefer the term EJ&E

  17. I prefer EJ&E Devil

  18. Thanks BTW – great to see everyone’s shots too! More to come I’m sure.

  19. Very well done Stephen….

  20. LOL I hear ya Stephen. I hate the term “Blue Devils” Really? Great photo!
