Caption: The in laws: After stuffing my face with my Mother in Law's wonderful food, I retired to watch a few trains with the usual evening Sarnia station gang. I hadn't spent time trackside all week and having arrived earlier in the afternoon I was itchy to smell the creosote. We had a pair of 271's and 323 (east) coming so a good solid hour of trains was before us. Anticipating 271, and out of nowhere,this SD60 comes rolling by on yard track westward as 271 (5611 west) was going through the scanner for the tunnel. Turns out this was Train 501 wyeing their power prior to a run to Port Huron. With a little bit of light left (and some yard lights to lighten the foreground) I decided to give it a shot, and in aperture priority mode, dialed down to f/4 and just snapped a few hoping one would turn out - this one was sharp at 1/15th a second. I didn't plan to take any photos, but with the camera in hand I tried the same on 271, but the north track doesn't have very good lighting, and nothing turned out. As soon as 271's tail end cleared, 5448 rolled by again and my attempts all failed, the light was failing fast! Lastly, following on 501's heels was a yard job with 7230 and three cars - again my attempts to capture anything failed, so I put the camera away. I watched 323 and the final 271, and after getting my fill went home to relax and hit the sack. You just don't know what will roll by when you visit Sarnia Station, and six movements in about an hour is darn good. Many people seem to loathe visiting their in-laws but I've always enjoyed the visits, 18 years and counting.
