The grounds look definitely worse for wear in this part of the world. Greater Sudbury, with all its mining and resulting slag heaps in many areas has rather depressing terrain. But, as the years go by, control of pollutants has resulting in the steady improvement and a resulting greening of the area. Once barren rocky land is now coming to life with new foliage.
However, in this shot from almost 40 yeas ago, that was not the case. The image shows INCO electrics 123 and 126 passing the Copper Cliff "Super Stack", a 1250 ft (381m) behemoth that looms over the surrounding countryside. Discharge from mining production is carried far into the atmosphere, away from the city itself.
INCO shed itself of the old electric motors around 2001 and now operate with GP38-4s.
