Caption: The GEXR expanded from its original startup in 1992 for the first time on November 16, 1998 with the acquisition of the CN Guelph Subdivision. The line brought in 6 units from other RaiLink roads for the takeover. The usual power problems resulted in GEXR leasing for brief periods units from the CN as well, thirty days at a time, I'm told. February 1999 was the only month the three in this image were together. And this was one of the rare times I was able to successfully snag a shot of a train rolling over the Grand River bridge. A lot of chopping, sawing and weeding preceded this event. Nowadays this area is all housing.......CN 9661, 9633 and 9643 power eastward toward Mac Yd from Stratford; I was a bit peeved there was no genuine GEXR loco in the consist, but one takes what one is offered. It looks to be a regular pre-GEXR train of the CN, but it isn't. It IS part of history though.

I’d be happy to find a consist like this on CN let alone GEXR.. like wine, this shot has aged well.
Nice shot Arnold. I’m hoping there are some shots out there of Guelph before the GEXR takeover.
LOL at our comments – look what’s happened now..
Careful what you wish for !!!
