Caption: The Galt Historical Railway Park. Definitely not the "Galt" we know in Ontario, as in "Galt Sub" but rather a tribute to the Galts, Sir Alexander and his son Elliot T. Galt. The Galts were responsible for really getting Alberta coal mining into the boom years with their incorporating of the North-West Coal and Navigation Company in 1882. They had a hand in almost everything coal. They incorporated, in Montana, the Great Falls and Canada Railroad, to build a line to the Canadian border at Sweetgrass, MT. A subsidiary company, the Alberta Railway and Coal Company, built from Lethbridge down to the border at Coutts, which, like Sweetgrass, hugged the boundary. This railroad project was completed by 1890. In 2000, the massive Sweetgrass station was moved to the newly formed Galt Historical Railway Park, about a mile north of the town of Stirling, Alberta. The structure was built in 1890 and actually straddled the Montana-Alberta border, making it at one time a true 'International' station. Massive indeed.
