Caption: The fading face of branchline railroading in Southern Ontario. It’s been very sad watching the gradual demise of most of the old branchlines across the province. It has been especially sad watching the old Owen Sound subdivision disappear for me. With the loss of the OBRY, CP is the last operator of the south end. Today only one rail served customer remains on the line in Meadowvale, there was once a few. Once or twice a week CP local H24 makes the trip just north of highway 401 to serve the sole customer. This move forces a long back up move to reach Streetsville yard after the work is finished. On the way the train passes old remnants of days gone by, along with discarded telephone poles, phone boxes and rotting piles of ties. Here ex SOO 4404 slowly backs its short train to the yard along with hoppers lighted earlier at the Ardent mill in south Streetsville.
