The Donut Stop on Parkdale Avenue was calling to me, so on my day off today I paid them a visit. Since I was in the north end anyway, I too was curious to see if one of the Korean SW1001s was working at National Steel Car. Kenilworth Avenue North parallels National Steel Car's property, but it's busy with trucks going in and out of Dofasco. The switchers may have still been parked where Steve caught them yesterday, but it was tough to see and today there was several rows of new rail cars parked in the way. NSC 11 was bombing around switching cars around their yard as it often does, so at least I was able to get a decent photo of it. And I got donuts, so I can't complain.

  1. Love me donut stop…!

  2. Neat picture. Are those cars in the background right side some of the steel coil cars being built for NS and awaiting delivery to Steelcon and St Catharines for covers to be attached ?

  3. @railwayguy – those steel coil cars are not NS. They have NKLX reporting marks. I don’t know if they’ll go to Steelcon for covers also; time will tell.

  4. I believe NKLX is Enkay which is a leasing company owned by NSC, or something along those lines. I’d suspect those are still coils for the NS order – they’ve done similar in the past for CP grain cars. I haven’t heard anything about them building coils for any others.

  5. I’m not sure how Hamilton donut shops can be brought up without Grandad’s Donuts on Burlington and James not getting an honorable mention.

  6. @Mark MacCauley: I could not agree more ! There aren’t too many authentic old-school donut shops left in Hamilton and these two are top notch.

  7. @Rob Smith, those NKLX coil cars are going to Trenergy to get covers installed as well.

  8. Dean Brown (CRHA Niagara Division) took some pictures at Steelcon plant in St Catharines yesterday showing steel coil car NKLX 400031. To the left is a coil cover on the ground with this wording on the end of it: “ FOR USE ON NKLX 400000 THRU 400314”. If this numbering is continuous then total current order is for 315 coil cars to be fitted with covers.

  9. Thank you CNCNDR and railwayguy for confirming the NKLX coil cars are also getting covers in St. Catharines. On this day I also photographed #11 switching NKLX 4000099, so NSC has about 215 to go!

  10. r smith, thanks for update. Any chance you can show some of the coil cars at NSC in Hamilton.
