The 1975 traffic downturn that sidelined CP's fleet of CLC and Baldwin locomotives also sidelined much of the 244-powered Alco/MLW fleet as well, including the entire fleet of FA/FB cowl-bodied units. Viewed from the coal tower, lines of stored CP MLW units fill the shop tracks by St. Luc roundhouse, including FA1/FB1, FA2/FB2, FPA2/FPB2, RS3 and RS10 units with stacks capped. The B-units were rounded up first, and the last active FA, 4089, would be shoved into the deadline in November 1975. The more modern St. Luc diesel shop is shown on the right, with C424's, RS18's (251-powered units were spared) and SD40-2's. Some switchers are parked on a track adjacent to the deadlines. While most of the stored RS3's and RS10's would be reactivated and put back to work for a few more years, the FA/FB fleet would remain stored until official retirement in 1977 and subsequent scrapping. Two units would be set aside for preservation (4090 & 4469). One unit would be converted into an air repeater car (4085 to 1100). A handful of B-units would be de-engined by Angus Shops, renumbered as AN-xx units, and stored again as potential fodder for conversion into robot/radio control cars for Locotrol use out west (only one would ultimately be converted, 4463 to RCC-5 (2nd)). Left side from close to far: 8472, 8567, 8482?, 8467? (M&G paint), RS3, FA1, FA2?, baggage car, caboose Right side from close to far: 4409, 4019, 8582, 4467, 4092, RS3 Upper right side: FPA2, FA1, FB2, URS RS3's 15-17, FB2?. 1. Fantastic image. It looks like all of the RS10′s except 8582 had steam generators.

  2. I believe the photographer might be standing on a sanding tower.

  3. Do any of the structures survive today? That roundhouse is huge! and power plant- turntable-and ash pit- very cool

  4. It looks like 1/4 of the roundhouse, the turntable and the powerhouse survive (as well as the St. Luc diesel shop)

  5. @MrDan, correct.
