The 1343 and 1347 are making a long reach into the Sherritt Gordon fertilizer plant, located directly east of the City. The 1347 is one of the very few 1300's I have seen where the bottom cab windows have been filled in and painted. It also has the unusual cylindrical stacks on the arrestor, rather than the inverted cones, as on the 1343. The green of the John Deere combine is almost exactly the same as the BN flat car it rides on. The flat will be heading to the team tracks downtown by the elevators perhaps. Photo taken at 11:30 on a crisp January day.

  1. Always been a sucker for John Deere. Great image

  2. That’s funny, I’ve had a John Deere lawnmower since ever. The abuse that thing has taken, but the engine just won’t die. It don’t run like a deer no more, silly thing turned into a pink bunny instead. :-D
    Thanks Jamie.

  3. Beautiful scene. Love the matching flatcar and John Deere combine as well.

  4. Thanks Jason.
Used to attend all the demolition derby’s while living in Redwater. The one we very much regretted missing was the farm combine derby at Thorhild. All reports had it as being quite hilarious. :-)

  5. Combine derby eh..

  6. All the farming I see in the Ontario photos, at sometime, maybe they were popular there. I know they were more popular in southern areas here where grain crops dominate.
