Switching isolated trackage with an F40? Yep, that's what the MMA did. SLC 270 (ex-AMT F40, before that NJT and originally Amtrak) was being used by the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic as a switcher on an isolated stretch of track that did not connect to MMA's network in the spring of 2014. Here it is parked on a rough piece of track near CN's Drummondville Sub.

    what happened down there? Haven’t seen many photos of this operating…

    If this was in Ontario, there would be shots of this operation, every week.. like the Burford spur :)

    MMA used to serve a feed mill in Ste-Rosalie via the St-Guillaume sub, an ex-CP branch from Farnham. By this point in 2014 the line from Farnham was out of service because it was in such bad sahep, so the MMA stationed a locomotive there permanently. The CMQ does the same thing even at present.

    A number of Quebec photographers covered this line much better than I did.

    Yeah but I don’t see the F40 working the line..

    Just the usual ragtag junk the MMA was known for.

    Correct, there’s a lot of photos on those pages, and I have other things to do than look for the needle in the haystack. :) Thanks for posting the link to the actual image in question.
