Stelco 78, their first GMD SW900 built May 1956, is seen in CN's London Yard in a winter circa 1995. My 1994 edition of Canadian Trackside Guide lists it among Stelco's locomotives, but by the 1996 edition it's gone. 
Note the black line along the walkway and cab, suspect it's a jumper airbrake hose bypassing the locomotive.  The gondola CN 157078 behind is loaded with looks-like a diesel engine and an AAR-A switcher truck. Another image from the same film strip shows SW8 Stelco 76. My impression is that both #76 and #78 were retired from Stelco at this point.
CN 5035, the SD40 on the track beyond #78, is back-to-back with a similar-looking CN locomotive also ending in "35" (could be CN 5135).

  1. Great catch !
    There were 6 Stelco engines disposed of during Jan/Feb 1995. They all shipped CN to Windsor and then CSX to McDonald Ohio for buyer Larry’s Truck Electric.
    SW-8 71, 74, and 76; SW900 78, 79; and G.E. 80ton 54.
    The G.E. plus 74 and 79 were all in pieces, in gondolas, the others were able to move on their wheels (and yes, that would be a straight-air hose passing thru the dead engine to the cars ahead/behind it.
    71 later became LTEX 801 and has been leased by them to a couple of various customers.It then got re-engined and became LTEX 925 and was leased to a frac sand unloader in Colorado.

  2. Thanks for that very interesting information, Bruce.
    The image I have of Stelco 76 is right hand side, part of the same train, similar distance and same-day weather – too bad the front truck is partly hidden by a tie pile. The cut off cab of the GE is in the gondola next to 76 ! Maybe I should submit that image ? Also have a left-hand side of #71 by itself, most likely in London, on a different day with not as much snow.

    It’s possible that #78 and #76 are separated by just the gondola CN 157078, if it is longer than an SD40.
