Caption: Steamy day at the roundhouse! A gathering of large of steam locomotives sits outside of Canadian National's Mimico roundhouse and yards one morning in 1956, ready and waiting for service. Lots of 6000-series 4-8-4 Northerns are in attendance, one of CN's preferred steam locomotive models for mainline service. In the background linger some CN cabeese with maple leaf wafer logos.
Today, groups of large steam locomotives together with fires in their bellies are a thing of the past, as are the roundhouses at every major terminus full of employees that kept them roadworthy, and the caboose that punctuated the opposite end of almost every train they pulled.

Today, this is a railfan’s dream.
Hard to imagine all those fine tuned locomotive just cut up as surplus steel.
