Caption: So the story goes, the day prior we were told by the crew that the CN 15:30 Kitchener Job was going to take a dedicated train to Nutrite in Elmira on the Waterloo Spur with two units. At the time, this was quite rare as normally this assignment only operated with a single unit and a few cars to Elmira 2-3 times per week.
So that next evening my dad and I waited in Waterloo for the train’s arrival in late fall light. Here CN 4111 and 7037 with 8 loaded hoppers and caboose 79905 are viewed heading north beside bustling Waterloo Town Square in Uptown Waterloo with conductor Bruce riding the point with his trusty flag.
