Caption: SHERBROOKE SCENE. The gates have been opened to allow FL9 # 484 to lead the Orford Express to Magog on the beautiful afternoon of August 11, 2013. Behind this 1957 vintage diesel, which once saw service with the New Haven Railroad, Amtrak and others, some of the 212 passengers to travel that day are still embarking for a delightful ride and meal through the Eastern Townships. Upon arrival in Magog, the FL9 will be the trailing unit as M420TR # 26 (see image 29463) will take the Orford Express back to Sherbrooke. Travelling there to watch their youngest son Thomas represent Newfoundland and Labrador in the sport of soccer during the 2013 Canada Games, it allowed this railfan and his wife Michelle to experience not only one of North America's most beautiful tourist trains but also one of their most memorable dining experiences anywhere on the entire continent. It also gave them an unexpected opportunity to retrace some of the same rails they rode 25 years earlier on VIA Rail's 'Atlantic' en route to Montreal, one of the many 'named' trains they experienced during their month-long cross country rail trip.
