Port Colborne Harbour Railway 308, an Alco S-1 built for the Erie RR in 1946, crosses the Oakdale Avenue bridge on its way up the Town Line Spur to service the paper mill in Thorold. Service on the spur was discontinued in 2007 after a bridge was damaged by arson, and this rather unique, ex NS&T, concrete arch was demolished in November 2011.

  5. oh tony…. check the front page, i threw up a couple shots from last week :)

in researching i discovered something rather neat. download and install google earth and you can view 1934 satellite imagery of the st catharines area

there appears to be a mile long viaduct similar to the above in thorold near what is interlake paper but on the south side along the west end of the (then) welland canal.

    quite fascinating… :)

thank again for your look into early trry history.

  6. Paris has its arch. St. Louis too. Merritton had the arch we see here. Memories…
