  1. Nice pic! Any chance you got a better shot of that crane CP C-382 in the background? :-)

  2. This caboose may well be there at Galt for work service with the crane. I can’t recall what type of crane that is by the number, but back in 1982, cranes were operated as trains with a Conductor arranging track time, hence the need for a caboose. Now, this type of work is handled by track maintenance forces using “TOPs” (track occupancy permit). I worked several cranes the Wellman crane, a Burro crane, & a PYKE crane which looked just like a Burro.
