It definitely wasn’t a surprise for me. I had been monitoring the operation for a while and it seemed the frequency this switcher ran was quickly thinning. By December, I was no longer seeing boxcars in Allanburg Yard. I was lucky to photograph this operation three times, but it was certainly not an easy train to catch.
Apparently RFP wants to convert this plant to produce leaf bag paper through some partnership with another company. It would be great if that happens, but since the cost of production in Ontario is so high, I have my doubts.
If worst comes to worst, hopefully those historic crossbucks and other memorabilia from the two ex CN units there can be retrieved. 1324 apparently had a prime mover failure, so unless it receives a miracle like CN 7304, it may be a short trip away from the scrapper.
I have a feeling Trillium is going to try and get 1305 off of the plant, considering Trillium sent away the switcher they got delivered a month ago.
what? gmtx 223 is gone?
Daniel there is a thriving market for switchers, chances are 1324 will find a new life, LDS could fix it up for example.
GMTX 223 still traces to welland Jan 4.
Gets me wondering if the #223 is dead up in the “yard” by the old Intermetco plant. Worth checking it out.
Trillium sent it back because it was set up for a slug, which Trillium does not have anymore.
Interesting… I doubt that’s the last we’ve heard about new motive power on Trillium. If you do find 223 please report here thx
GMTX 223 was delivered with prime mover issues, I’d heard something about oil everywhere. I don’t think it has been sent anywhere yet.
As I said earlier, this engine would still be somewhere in the plant, such as inside that enginehouse
GP’s plant located to west of this is slated for demolition, three years after they announced its idling.
It’s in there Bruce.. all the markings on the outside of it are gone however. I could not tell that closely as it was really dark inside
