Penn Central GP9 7434 assists Amtrak E-unit 443 move the "Niagara Rainbow" (Detroit-Buffalo via the Canada Southern) through Canfield. This was probably necessitated by a power failure on the passenger train.

  1. Wow, now this is one-in-a-million !!
    Looks to be exhaust coming out of the E8, perhaps it’s was only functioning on half power to bring about the GP9 use ..??

  2. I worked on the CP Woodstock-Port Burwell job back then. We used to take lunch sometimes in the “Coffee Pot” a little lunch counter in Tillsonburg. One day the PC signal maintainer was at the counter & I mentioned how fast the passenger trains go thru Tillsonburg. He told me he wouldn’t ride one of them “for a million bucks”, the track was that bad.
