    I want to try to photograph the OSR – what is generally their schedule? Shortlines are so much different than that of the CN or CP…where normally you’re guaranteed a train no matter what.

    The good news is this is a busy shortline, they handle about 30,000 carloads a year and have jobs running almost every day of the year.

    OSR Salford operates approximately as follows:

    Woodstock Turn Monday to Friday guaranteed, Saturdays (usually) and some Sundays (probably a 50%-75% chance – depends on CAMI demands). Ordered 1000 at Salford, usually departs by 1015-1030. Woodstock jobs can work Putnam, Ingersoll, or Beachville, and of course Woodstock.

    CAMI jobs are twice a day 7 days a week usually, but there are a few days a year where they may not operate due to shutdowns. These jobs work switching the CAMI plant and go to Ingersoll in the mid to late afternoon to interchange with CN.

    Salford also operates St. Thomas jobs mon/wed/fri (Ordered 1200) and Tillsonburg jobs (Usually ordered mid morning – 0900 or so) tues/thurs but the days can change based on customer needs.

    Courtland jobs run extra as required, sometimes from a Tillsonburg job, sometimes a true extra, about 20 times a year.

    Again just go to Salford in the morning and see what they are up to and go from there. The boys will be happy to give you the lowdown.

    If you want to shoot the Gelph Junction Railway division, they operate mon-friday, sometimes with two jobs (one ordered a couple hours after the other). One will work the north end, while the other works the lower yard and other Southern customers.

    GJR very rarely works week-ends, maybe once or twice a year if that.

    All schedules are approximate as railways are known to change as required :)

  3. Update: St. Thomas jobs are Mon-Fri 0830 Salford now with some Saturday extras.

    Tillsonburg twice/week as needed ordered later in morning to noon..

    Woodstock and Cami largely unchanged Any Sunday jobs are extras.
