Ontario Rail Association's former CPR 136 and 1057 duo, now lettered for the Credit Valley Railway, operate on a fall ORA fantrip over the Canadian Pacific's Orangeville and Owen Sound Subs during October 4th & 5th, 1975. They are seen here doing a run-by along the fall countryside at what I believe to be Mile 42 of the Owen Sound Sub, between Markdale & Flesherton (where exactly I haven't been able to pin down). Both were part of the famed CPR Tripleheader in May 1960, and went on to many fantrips and excursions in the 1970's under Ontario Rail ownership. The late 80's spelled the end of the Owen Sound Sub between Orangeville and Owen Sound, while the section between Orangeville and Streetsville Junction (owned by the Town of Orangeville since 2000) could be facing the same fate by the end of 2021.Original photographer unknown, Dan Dell'Unto collection slide.

  1. Very nice. We really need to nail down the date of this trip. I have slides from October 4/5, 1974 (Friday-Saturday), other slides, quite a lot actually, labelled October 13/14/15 (Sat/Sun/Mon), and simply ‘Thanksgiving Weekend.’ I’m thinking the 4-5 might be the correct dates.

  2. Actually, “this trip” is likely two different trips: The 1974 trip has the 136 with large old-style numbers on the tender and CVR 136 on the cab, the 1975 trip has Credit Valley lettering in its place on the tender and only 136 on the cab.

I believe the October 1975 trip took place on October 4th (northbound?) & 5th (southbound?) 1975. I don’t have any info on the October 1974 trip, but going by some of Arnold’s photos it wouldn’t surprise me if it was 13-14-15th.

  3. Ah I see the difference. I saw this and immediately thought it was the 1974 trip. My error.
