Caption: One of my favourite spots to shoot in Thunder Bay was from the Central Ave overpass looking over CN's Port Arthur yard. Action was limited on the best of days, but it would usually guarantee watching the afternoon yard switching grain cars to/from the local elevators and miscellaneous interchange traffic from CP.
Thunder Bay's geographic location on Lake Superior made it hard to forecast weather, some days would call for nothing but sun and it would turn cloudy/rainy or vice versa, however it would normally cloud over to the west every evening while to the east over the lake it would remain clear. When it would work out, some dramatic scenes would take place. Here I caught the "15 Port Arthur" switching loads out of Canada Malt while a sucker hole catches CN 7261 as its crew kicks a string of 14 cars into a track in a yard marshalling "Easts", "Wests" and "South's".
