On Vancouver Island, Crown Zellerbach at Ladysmith often borrowed a locomotive from CP (E&N) when their lone road unit was down. On Wednesday 1977-10-26, the unit on loan was S-4 7116 from Wellcox yard in Nanaimo, and is seen here idling in the distance as the CZ Humdirgen log car unloader (on Shay running gear) is encouraging loads into the saltchuck for boom boats to organize into rafts for towing to mainland mills. A goal of photographing that action was catching the THUNK-SPLOOSH as each bundle hit the water.
