On the ninth day of the Wet'suwet'en First Nation rail blockade in Ontario - a day after CN announced it would "shut down its Eastern Canada network" - a handful of trains took the scenic route over the Ontario Northland Railway to reach their respective destinations of Toronto (southbound) and Northern Quebec (northbound). Here, detoured CN stack train no. 149 is seen racing southbound along ONR's Temagami Subdivision, kicking up snow by line's gorgeous namesake station.

  1. Awesome stuff, Ryan. Great that someone was up there for this.

  2. So how did 149 which is a westbound usually out of Toronto going to Chicago get going south on the ONR at Temagami !

  3. Rouyn-Noranda Mike. Nice shot Ryan glad someone could cover this.

  4. Great shot!

  5. Way to go Ryan, nice to see A CN face passing that beautiful ONR Temagami Station and that it is still standing. Notwithstanding CN’s shut down announcement, kept hearing about CN detours north from North Bay on ONR to Rouyn Noranda, on to Senneterre and along the old National Transcontinental to Hervey, and then south to Montreal. Now we have proof of this detour route. What I don’t understand, if CN is operating along the ex-NTR and ex-CNoR in Quebec, why can’t VIA ? Thanks for sharing this picture.

  6. This is a great shot. Looking at the snow being kicked up the Engineman has the train moving at track speed.
