Caption: Not much more frustrating a 'treasure hunt' as wandering around Winnipeg looking for the Great Winnipeg Water District Railway. Finally, after locating it off Pinguet St in St. Boniface; we arrive only to find that it is all behind high security fencing since the City Municipal trucks and all are stored there. And worse, about 90% of the day one would not only have to deal with the tall wire topped fence, but also shooting into the sun with tall weeds to help mess up the scene. The GWWD rarely ventures far these days; its glory days are done. The line still runs all the way down to the eastern limits of the province, some 92 miles to Indian Bay. But it is seldom used. Only evidence of activity that could take place these days was a row of rusty GWWD lettered hoppers just outside the fencing to the south-east of the facility. Other than a Rail Bus and a coach, we could only see and barely photograph this old MLW S-13, built back in 1959 and looking as though it may never see the likes of freedom again.
