Not a lot has changed with this station over the years. It was built for the new Canada Southern in 1871. Passenger trains no longer ran over the line by the 1980s when the station was threatened with demolition. (this image was taken back when the possibility of survival looked promising) Fortunately it was saved and purchased by the local Chamber of Commerce, and ended up the property of the Waterford and Townsend Historical Society which in turn leased it out to a business called "Quilt Jct." which has been doing fairly well. The problem is now that the property is up for sale which could mean the end of the business there. Complicating everything pending any sale is the Society owns the building and the County owns the land beneath it. And the Ontario Heritage Foundation has declared the structure a Historical building.
So, it is worth a few photos if you are ever out this way. Waterford has a lot to offer. The old CASO is now a great walking trail, as is the former LE&N line that crosses over the local waters and the former CASO via the Black Bridge, which is a couple of hundred yards west of this station. Nice antique market and of course a place to enjoy a local craft beer makes this a nice stop along the west end of Alice St while in town.

  1. Good research and story. Always a challenge when a station building is preserved.
