Northbound ONR 2000, 202, train #692 running from Toronto to Cochrane, slows to a station stop in downtown Gravenhurst. Due at 1400, the train is on time. For a while there were the three refurb'd FP 7 units assigned to the passenger train, numbers 2000-2002, but all were retired by 2004 and replaced by various GP38-2 units. Then by 2012 the Ontario Liberal government, in a valiant effort to trim their finances lost by scandals and sqquandering, eliminated the train altogether. It is certainly missed by the riders and the many ONR railfans in the North. Another example of the dismantling of the Canadian passenger rail system. Sad.

  1. Nice picture Mr M. I thought that Gravenhurst had put their station to good use.

  2. And sadly, there was nary a mention during the recent provincial election, of restoring the service.
