Northbound CP 5637,5587,3094,30xx,5680,5402,CRL(Conrail Leasing)600 and CP 5933 roar off the big Parry Sound trestle past the dilapidated old CP station, abandoned in early 1990; and was a potential firetrap until resurrected by an outfit that opened the Parry Sound Station Gallery in 2001. In this image the gloomy old station matched the weather of the late fall day, cold and wet.
It was indeed a relief for the fans that the station survived all those years neglected without going up in flames as a result of vandals or vagrants. (Note wood pried off one lower bay window in photo)"The Sound" is one of the few communities in Ontario that can boast still having two railroad stations. The CN sta. is less than a mile away, serves as C of C and License Bureau.

Great stuff Arnold, loving all the stuff from up here before I was able to start bringing a camera with me! Keep ‘em coming!
The station has weathered a lot in 20 years,I bet it,s not there anymore.

Believe it or not the building has survived. Rather amazing when one looks back at what it went thru. Four more years of decline after this photo was taken before it was saved; and the restoration was so well done one could think there is a replica station on this spot rather than the real thing.
To me, Parry Sound is all about trains, and it is great the citizens of the Sound, despite the whining over constant train whistles, realize the importance of their heritage.
