Next station stop will be Pikwitonei, MB Mile 213.3 HBR Thicket Sub. Another shot I had to take from inside the train as the vestibule doors were not opened for passengers to detrain on the northbound journey to Churchill. I'm in VIA 8515 Skyline and trying to pick the cleanest area of the bug splattered window to get a decent shot. VIA 693 will come to a stop when the baggage car door lines up with the road crossing. The Pikwitonei station is located near Railway Avenue & Sandy Bay Road in this remote village. Located approximately 47 km (29.2 mi) from Thompson, MB, the community is served by Via Rail at the Pikwitonei railway station. It was nice to see some of the town folk come down to greet the train.

  1. Sure is the middle of ‘nowhere’. Interesting to see all these little stops. I doubt I will ever get there. :o )

  2. And there were some many others to see as well. Maybe on your next cross-country driving excursion you could stop in Winnipeg, park your chariot, take a leisurely ride to Churchill on VIA 693, stay a few days, return to the Peg on VIA 692, and continue your driving trip. Just sayin’.????

  3. Paul, your most interesting and scenic pictures taken on your trip to Churchill are providing for me my first look at this fascinating rail line to Churchill, not many pictures available of the various city stations, wayside flag stop structures and stops like this one where there seems to be just a shipping container-like structure for a station shelter, and a level crossing for pick up truck to back up to the baggage car door – very much northern Canada remote railroading ! Like Arnold, not so sure at my age I well ever make the rail trip to Churchill so your pictorial record and captions are the next best thing. Many thanks, John

  4. Thanks for all your kind comments John. So glad you’re enjoying my Churchill trip photos. Many of them were taken through the dirty, bug splattered, curved, tinted windows of my bedroom or the Skyline dome and fall well short of being acceptable on the RP.ca site. The moderators are working with me and doing everything they can to ensure the best photos are corrected and make it through for everyone’s viewing pleasure. Stay tuned for more. :-)
