New locomotives for VIA!! Hard to believe it has been only 20 years and it is rumoured these units will be on their way out as VIA finally gets more updated new power. NS 8939 has 4 units in tow, plus end buffer, as it heads up to Niagara Falls from the USA where these will be dropped at the sprawling CN yard.
The namesign "Yager East" is now history; the 1.2 mile connection here from the Stamford to the Humberstone sub was lifted some years ago; eliminating the "wye".
At the time I was always bemused by how the governments kept telling to "buy Canadian" yet they could not find anywhere in Canada to purchase a satisfactory locomotive....or anything else, for that matter.

  1. NS 8939 rebuilt to NS 4178 as well.

  2. What made the supposed F59PHI deal fall through? That would’ve definitely be built in Canada. Or was it because this was tacked onto Amtrak’s last ever P42 order and we have to keep up with the Joneses?

  3. Nice to see the sign.

  4. For sure, Mr. Knott. I wonder what became of it? Looks to be metal, but still……..

  5. awesome catch!

  6. Very Cool!

  7. M.S. and M.E. …thank you for your comments.
