Multi purpose MOW machine CN 621-01 in a cloud of dust and spitting stones is on a mission to keep the ballast below the tie-tops on the recently re-ballasted Aldershot West yard lead. Note the operator wears a dust mask.
After my next visit to this location, I found 2 dog ticks had climbed up onto my head - watch out in long grass. Restrain ticks with clear adhesive tape and identify -> http://www.tickencounter.org/tick_identification/tickid_nonflash

  1. CN 621-01 is a Nordco (ex-Pyke) model M2 combination ballast regulator/snow fighter with serial No. 800120, built at Oshawa, ON in November 2001 and delivered new to CN in Hornepayne, ON November 20th. The machine was commissioned in Hornepayne yard on December 17, 2001.

  2. Its about time they reballasted that track. It was actually sinking in mud. Every time i passed over it I thought I would derail! :-)

  3. Sad to say, dumping ballast on top of the infiltrated clay and then brushing it left that lead track looking not a lot better than before – a little bit of clay drifted away in the dust cloud !

  4. Well hopefully they did not just dump ballast on compromised roadbed. Normally they undercut the track first. That may not be the case here as its a yard lead and not the main line.

  5. the week of May 13th – a kink developed on the yard lead right at that mud patch ..standing on Lemonville Road looking west..it was fairly significant and being reported by passing trains..it was repaired that day in time for 435 – later in the afternoon. For a few days afterwards, ballast was dumped to fix it up as seen here.
