Caption: Metropolitan Agence du Transport (MUCTC) FP7's 1304 and 1301 (ex-CP 4074 and 4071) sit side-by-side at the head of commuter trains parked at Dorion QC in 1987. The two units were part of a 7-unit group of long-lived FP7's (4070-4075 and 4040) that CP held onto for commuter service in the Montreal area, which kept racking up the miles long after CP had retired its other units in the early 80's. They all had seen service on The Canadian and The Dominion as 1400's in the 50's and 60's, before being renumbered back to 4000-series units for dual freight/passenger service (often working the Toronto-Sudbury section of The Canadian).
They managed to elude the VIA takeover of most of CP's passenger services in 1978, and eventually these units and the commuter trains they powered ended up going to the MUCTC, STCUM, and eventually AMT where they continued to operate in commuter service until retirement in 2002-2003. The old F's were then sold off, some changing hands a few times and others eventually being scrapped. 1301 still operates on the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railway in the US painted up as Western Maryland 243, and 1304 (and 1306) are currently owned by Silcott Railway Equipment (GSLX).
