Very nice. I can picture this as I’ve been here, the right of way is still intact… I heard about the Timmins -> mainline shuttle, what a way to run a train..
The Empire Hotel looks like your kind of place! And they had free parking! It’s interesting to see how the scene looks now on Google street view. There’s a parking lot built on the right of way next to the structure now.
Lots of action in this scene. Very nice.
The Timmins – Mainline shuttle? I’m curious…
Looks like the line just ends West of Porcupine Lake at a hydro plant just past the Porcupine mine. Surprised about the Free Parking’ in 1977 in Timmins of all places! This aint Tarana 2018!
Jacob it was described to me by fans whom I know who went there in the 70′s or so that the ONR either ran the Northlander direct from Timmins for a while, but then changed to Cochrane but in lieu of direct Timmins service you could ride a train from Timmins to Porquis Jct, which consisted of a single engine, SGU and a single car. Basically a shuttle to meet the mainline train.
Then that shuttle ended sometime in the late 70′s or early 80′s by my guess.
Yeah, Brad. Not like I couldn’t find a place to park in Northern Ontario. )
