Looking back from the trailing unit, CNR GMD-1 1914, the UCRS excursion from Toronto Union Station to Haliburton makes its way along Victoria Avenue at Bond Street in the heart of Lindsay. Travelling behind CNR 6167 from Toronto to Lindsay, the pair of green and gold GMs handled the train between Lindsay and Haliburton, and later that evening would have 6167 added ahead of them for the fast run back to Toronto.More shots from the day:GMD-1s at Haliburton, by Bill Thomson.Runpast near Kinmount, by Bill Thomson.Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.

  1. Nice view.

  2. Something not noticed before, on the right a whistle post, a mail box, a hydrant and a street sign all side by side – where else could you find this ? For a number of years in late 1940’s – early 1950’s, my Uncle Gordie (D-Day Juno Beach veteran) and Aunt “Dutch” with 2 little kids lived on the east side of the street at forty & one-half Victoria Ave. A number of times in my early teens, travelled to Lindsay on the morning train for Peterborough, stayed the weekend and attended the Lindsay Fall Fair – for me riding on this UCRS excursion was a trip “along memory lane” thanks to the accommodating CN engine crew and conductor.

  3. The UCRS operated several Haliburton trips. I was fortunate to ride the September 1967 (68?) trip, 6218 from Union to/from Lindsay and SW1200RS’s (1200 or 1300 series) in green & gold to downtown Haliburton. The trip was prior to UCRS car #13 (ex Cape Race), the CN provided an ex Milwaukee Skytop: a CN Skyview 1900 series car (8 bedroom, lounge, skyview) to grace the tail end.
