Caption: Lightning strikes twice, no pun intended with the weather today either. Since GTW 6420 visited Hamilton earlier this summer, CN decided to throw 5894 into the power pool in Stuart Street. After striking out a few days in a row, 5894 after switching the industry South of Bunge, pulls forward and shoved into Bunge itself for quite some time. All in all, a great day, next time I hope the weather plays ball.

The industry south of Bunge, is in fact… Bunge! It’s known as the EOF, aka the Edible Oil Facility. You will see pipes going across overtop of Burlington Street from “Crush” (aka where oilseed is crushed) to the EOF. Oils are also shipped in by rail, blended, and moved out by rail/truck. You will see the odd clay car there too rarely – for bleaching oils that have gone bad in transit.
You’ll also note the new crossing protection in place, to support the eventual conversion of this presently one-way street to two-way. Two-way flow will certainly make railfanning around here a little more agile.
I can’t remember who I was discussing this with (It may have been you, @jknott86 haha) but I’m curious if the two way street is to promote truck access to that new industrial park to the right of where you were standing for this shot Carson.
Fun note, the snow plow of 5849 was in much better shape prior to arriving at Hamilton. As far as I’ve heard, the score is Burlington Street: 2, Snowplow: 0.
Two-way conversion is at the request of the industrial park
Neat news. I wish the industrial park success. How far is the two way conversion going? Wellington too?
I believe Victoria will now be two-way all the way south to Barton. Wellington is on a conversion list I have seen before, not sure of timing for it though. But it certainly makes sense given that Victoria will now carry some of that southbound burden.
I learned to drive (driving lessons) downtown Hamilton. It was horrible.
Left hand turns from one way street to another were the worst – he’d yell at us every time for not making it as tight as the curb!
