Caption: Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to Churchill
VIA 693 The Hudson Bay makes its 5 mph reverse movement from HBR Churchill South, through the recently rehab'd Churchill yard, towards the stately station in Churchill, MB.
The day is starting out great with sunshine and just a bit of hazy sky.
Not much in the yard this early September morning except a loaded GREX Dump Train, a few tank cars, and a single bulkhead flat loaded with rolls of Geotextile fabric for laying down during roadbed rehabilitation.
I'm just 10 minutes away from detraining and starting a full day of exploring the town and HBRY infrastructure once again. :-)

Nice shot of the yard and grain facility ! How much freight does this railway handle ? There seems to be a lot of rehab going on but not much in the way of freight activity. Thanks for sharing your rail adventures !
Good morning Aitch
I don’t know the frequency of the HBRY way freight but when it does run, there are usually quite a few cars in the consist.
During the four times I have been to Churchill in the past 3 years, I have seen carloads of diesel fuel, gasoline, propane, automobiles, construction machinery, building supplies, railway ties, TOFC’s, to name just a few of the commodities. And of course carloads of groceries and other supplies for the town folk and local businesses.
The amount of rehab work that has been completed since my first trip in August of 2022 is incredible. New ties, rail, ballast, culverts, and other major infrastructure have really made a difference in the travel speed and ride quality along the HBRY’s subdivision tracks between The Pas and Churchill.
Thanks to my brother Terry for this very timely article on the potential future use of the railway infrastructure in Churchill …

Thanks for the info Paul. Hopefully those plans come to fruition and unlock the great potential of this route.
