Just can't get enough !

July 24, 1980 the NRHA Toronto Convention.

note the multiple private rail cars in the Spadina Coach yard

AND also in the Spadina Coach Yard:

1) the Northlander

2) Tempo equipment

3) MLW FPA4

4) MLW S13's working the yard

5) far distance, look under the Spadina Ave overpass: a Tempo equipped MLW 3100 (orange body white cab)

6) at left is the lead to the new (at that time) GO downtown storage yard.

7) the never used TTR Control Tower

8) And of course the NRHA doubleheader special featuring Mountain Type CNR 6060 and VIA FP9A #6539 along with several NRHA member owned private rail cars.

9) that du Maurier billboard atop the silos

10) the shadow of the Bathurst Street overpass (with TTC PCC streetcars rumbling by...)

James Adeney captured this special at Hamilton Junction (near Bayview), see:

  NRHA at Bayview

Night time looking east:

  Bathurst Street 1977

CNR 6060 in full stride:

  at Sunnyside July 19, 1980

What's interesting:

…. not a GE to be seen....anywhere !

...And yes that 6060 exhaust talk was great to listen to....

  1. So much has changed! Neat capture with the foreign cars!

  2. Very nice picture ! Note the round tail observation car Mardis Gras NRHS Roanoke Chapter owned, ex-ICRR) on the tail end with 2 other NRHS “Independence Limited” cars in front of it along with the second car which is ex-Southern Railway coach, borrowed to help accommodate the large number of NRHS Convention riders. Rode on the NRHS Independence from Alexandria VA to Toronto via Roanoke, the NKP main line along the south shore of Lake Erie to Buffalo, NYC to the Falls and CN to Toronto, arriving ten hours late – an unforgettable trip !

  3. When this was posted I didn’t appreciate it as much… but now… I stare at this and go whaaaaaaaaaaaa???
