Caption: Its the dead of winter, a bone chilling cold January afternoon and although the sun is up there, it leaves no impact except to exaggerate the fact it ain't gonna warm up. And with no trains in sight and the scanner quiet, I elected to shoot the scene more as proof I had been there that day than anything else. Not long after though, the station was bulldozed, the connection to the cement plant (behind me) was taken up and this ends up being a shot for posterity. Br-r-r-r-r..............

A wonderfully moody image Arnold – I love the blue hues… nicely done, Sir!
Interesting, so did they move the spur switch back a bit? The switch is installed now and the St. Marys sub is still there for about half a mile for the Cement Plant..
The track on the left (which used to go thru to Ingersoll) has been pulled up but the spur (former St. Marys sub) track northward is in the same location it always was, as far as I know.
Ooooh I see – that’r right! So this is facing west and the St. Marys switch in far distance is the one still there. Excellent.
Yes, Mr. Steve…..I neglected to indicate this image was facing West…..forgetting also that many viewers are not at all familiar with the fact there was a station here. The photo was taken about 330PM as the sun would be down right over the tracks in the next hour. I cannot ever remember from 1979 onward anyone at the station, and this day it looks abandoned too, but the parking area and front walkway are shoveled out.:o)
Must be for MoW.
The track to Ingersoll was also part of the St Mary’s Sub. but we called “the Ingersoll North branch”. After the 10:00 St. Mary’s Roadswitcher job was abolished, the day Roadswitcher that handled Woodstock yard would handle business. Rarely on weekends, through freight crews would run up to St. Mary’s or Ingersoll North if ‘hot’cars were needed. It was a long ride in the dark or rain on the point from Zorra to Ingersoll, over 4 miles.
Thanks, Ronald. Besides you guys being in the dark over such a ride, I’m “in the dark” over so much of this railroad activity.
Thats one ride I sure would not want to be on.
