It was early March when spring made it's first appearance this year, but we know how that ended.  Today GO Transit/Metrolinx began brush clearing and fencing operations from Guelph Junction (Alma Street - mile 49.79) through to Imperial Road in Guelph's west end (mile 51 approximately).  Having lived near the Junction all my life it's one of those places close to me.  I remember seeing the Amtrak International pass through around lunch time; eventually becoming standard VIA 85 with it's wrapped F40's for CBC, Spider Man, Budweiser and the Quebec Lotto wrap; the turd.  Various geeps frequented the locals and 6 geeps frequently led 432/431 on it's daily trip.  I remember seeing a set of 8! one night around 2000h.  431 came by at that time for a while.  Then there were the Export locomotive's from EMD in London bound for Halifax.  The geeps gave way to the HLCX SD's and soon RailAmerica came under the G&W banner.  The yard at Guelph Junction lost some tracks over the years, but mostly it remains the same.  The south (eastbound) main/passing track from mile 49.80 to mile 48.70 was too removed, leaving Guelph mostly single tracked, save for mile 48.70ish to mile 49.09 (Dublin Street).  The Guelph Sub became CTC controlled instead of OCS, GO Transit began operating the Guelph Sub for it's second time, now continuing to Kitchener, and most recently, CN is preparing to reclaim the Guelph Sub and various spurs.  The place has changed, and will continue changing, but it'll always be "Alma Street."

  1. Good looking photo Jacob and caption. I see the old tunnel motor is in the consist too. Unfortunate that the orange and yellow will be leaving these tracks. Thank you also for all your support buddy. :-)

  3. ….agreeing with Arnold. Although it’s sad to see the GEXR go….I am kind of looking forward to seeing CN return. I don’t agree that they should take the lines back because now theyre profitable (something CN couldn’t do some 20 years ago)…but it is a homecoming of sorts.
