It was a cold and nippy Sunday to go foaming, but there was quite a bit to see. CN freights, SOR power parked for the weekend in Hamilton, the VIA's, and of course weekend GO's on the Lakeshore Line.

But that day the GO's were far from the usual: weekends meant double-header F59PH's hustling back and forth from Aldershot to Oshawa, and at the time the first few brand new MP40PH-3C's were operating in break-in service with an F59PH. After shooting this train idling at Aldershot GO Station with brand new GO 605 leading (and running out of batteries right after - the spares were in the car), a short trip east put two railfans at the King Road level crossing near CN's Aldershot Yard, and with a fresh set of batteries the wait was on for it to depart with the new MP40 in the lead. And so it was captured: with the pink glint of a winter sunset just past 6pm, GO 605 leads venerable F59PH 525 on train #926, after departing for its run east minutes earlier. Its pilot and lower front end are encrusted in a layer of frozen snow, no doubt from ping-ponging back and forth along the line all day.

An interesting note is when the MP40's were new, a lot of engine crews forgot to turn off the marker lights if the unit was trailing before, resulting in running forward with both headlight and marker lights on on the same end.
