Caption: It looks like a chilly winter's day in Pembroke - the polar opposite to last week's Rosamond upload here on RPca.
The engineer is seen in this image looking directly at Del - perhaps wondering why he is taking pictures of an old steam locomotive. The location is the lumber yard of the Consolidated Paper Corporation. It was immediately across the tracks from the CPR stone station. The satellite image now shows just a few town-homes and some open fields.
The water tower which held the supply for the local steam trains is still in use today. It sits at the corner of John Street and Nelson Street. On the side of this tower is a huge mural featuring the long-gone station and this very locomotive, #1223.
Del's sister, Gloria, tells me that the interior of the station featured beautiful wood. Before the station was finally torn down, the wood was purchased by a local school teacher and used in her Quebec cottage.
