Caption: It is the second last day of 1981 and there is a seasonally amount of snow on the ground. Plus it is a nice crisp day. We are a few years into VIA, but CN RS-18s are still helping out. Note the number of passengers, and the ever present taxis. Train travel was a lot easier back then. Not the best angle for shooting a train stopped at the Burlington West station, but I submitted it because it is different. And it is sunny!! The station now leads a new life about a long block away, on Fairview Av, as the Freeman Station museum. Passenger service has been relocated a half mile east at the GO complex.

I like it. Having spent time here in the 80′s with my Grandfather it was a nice place to watch trains. Once I found girls and needed a hobby this was one of the first places I went back to when Trains became it and spent lots of time here 2002-2006.
About train travel being easier, the Dundas sub alone had 9 timetabled passenger trains in each direction in 1981, add the Niagara Falls trains and you have a dozen in each direction.

The long time operator there – “Stan” – there’s his green car against the station, among all the other “mooney-type” cars*.
*Mooney-type = large bulky gas guzzlers
Stan “The Man” Roskovich born in Saskatchewan. He always treated me well, and helped get me started in 1967 as a summertime clerk, which led to a fulltime Operator’s position after high school the following year.
Many many years of fond – and not-so-fond memories at this location. But, this is a family show….
Almost unrecognizable today….all the urban sprawl that occurred shortly after this photo. It all looks “wide open” then…which makes this an excellent shot Arnold because of the angle of the stopped train at the station.
