Caption: It is great that the Kenora CP station complex has been designated 'Heritage',(1991) as it is a beautiful sight. This view was taken from the Matheson St overpass at the west end of the yard. Kenora station was constructed back in 1899. The left foreground, a parking area for staffers and employees, was once a beautiful garden, complete with lush grasses and endless flowers. The idea was for new Canadians heading west to start a new life would see the beauty at station stops and give them encouragement for what lied ahead. Boy were they in for a surprise!!! There was no beauty in landing somewhere in Saskatchewan or Southern Alberta and fending oneself against a prairie winter. Many newbies stuck it out though, and as the years passed the railroads, as the major highways in the east, cut back on "beauty" as a non-contributor to the bottom line and neglect took over.

You were in Kenora and didn’t look me up Arnold! Shame, shame, shame.
I hope you are not going to tell me you live in Kenora. Last I heard you were in TBay. Oh-h, oh-h..:o(
This shot, Mr. Mooney, made your difficult trek through the rough country of northern Ontario worthwhile. The potholed roads, expensive gas and over priced motels were all paid for by this station shot. Well Done!
Thanks, CTP: I sure wish had train had passed during my short time of being in that town. It is a nice area, beautiful actually, but there are a lot of (overpriced) reasons why I will never be back. But we will not go into the politics of still more taxes. This station is beautiful, and I have to say I am impressed at how well a typical what-I-thought so-so photo turned out.
