It didn't ahppen very often, but at least once I was able to snag a shot of an SD90MAC-H on the lead of a Hamilton-area train. Here #254 with CP 9300 and SD40-2 5696 are northbound about to duck under the High Level Bridge in west Hamilton. A strangely light Hwy 403 is in the background.

  1. Was this taken early in the morning Arnold?

  2. I cannot remember exact time this was shot, but yes, I’d say between 9-10 AM at the latest. This is one of the few locations along the line where there is any decent sun angle at all in the mornings. This SHOULD have been noted as train #255, not #254. Hopefully the Powers-In-Charge will have the error corrected by the time you read this.

  3. Amazing shot Arnold. I recall seeing this train on the same day down at Robbins around 7am, 5696 must have been added at Welland or Kinnear, as it was solo when we saw it.

  4. Thanks for the comment. Let’s assume the second unit was added in order to tackle the grade up thru Waterdown. I was unaware it ran solo, as the only time I saw it was at this location. (Lucky)
