Caption: In this cold winter morning scene, TTC PCC 4098 (an A1 class car built new by CC&F in 1938) heads westbound on the Carlton route passing through east end Toronto (the Upper Beaches area), travelling westbound on Gerrard Street East passing Bellhaven Road to the west of Woodbine.

Four years earlier, car 4098 was involved in an incident with sister car 4052 when it rear-ended 4098 at Queen & Alton, damaging both cars and putting them out of service. As per TTC's Coupler employee magazine, 4052's front end was damaged beyond repair, so its intact rear end was cut off by Hillcrest Shops and welded onto the rear of 4098 to replace its wrecked end, and 4098 was put back into service. 4052 was stripped of usable parts and scrapped. 4098 lasted a few more years until the Bloor-Danforth subway opened and rendered a lot of the TTC's older PCC streetcars surplus. As this was taken a few days prior to the B-D subway opening on the 25th, it's possible 4098 was running out its last days in service.
